Eat good, feel good. That's my philosophy.
About Me
Thanks for visiting Blissfully Unrefined, and welcome!
My goal for this site is to make it a central place where people can come to learn about food, how their bodies use it, and get some great wholesome recipes as well. I started this site as a way not only to share the knowledge I have, but to expand my knowlege as well. If there's a topic you'd like to see me cover on this site, please send me an email at BlissfullyUnrefined [at] gmail.com! As I am just starting out, and my followers are very few, I will respond to any email I get for the forseeable future.

Some important things to note at this point: I am not a doctor, a nutritionist, or a registered dietitian, and I do not hold any medical degrees or an ID badge from the USDA. As the FDA says: These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This blog is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. In all seriousness, please remember that this is how I'VE chosen to live. I have no major diet-related deficiencies, and your doctor should always be the first person you listen to in terms of your health.
So what makes me qualified to tell you anything?
I love food. Always have. I love to cook, and I LOVE to eat. Unfortunately for me, food didn't always love me back. Between a 75-pound weight gain after college (and the yo-yoing that inevitably follwed), viewing the movie "Super Size Me"(ruined McD's for life), and my always very health-conscious mother being diagnosed with cancer (and morphing into Organic-Mom), I decided to go out and re-work how I thought about food. I did the dieting thing, which worked for awhile, but (shockingly) it didn't stick.
So I stopped dieting. Mere months before my wedding (and still a good 40 pounds from my goal weight), I decided forget counting calories, forget adding up Points, forget all of it. I stopped caring what I LOOKED like, decided to let go of the skinny me from high school, and instead, focus on how I FELT. I found once I started thinking about my food in terms of QUALITY instead of QUANTITY, I was feeling better both physically (because I was actually NOURISIHING my body), but also MENTALLY. It's hard to be mad at yourself for eating whole fat yogurt when you know why you are making that choice.
My Mission
Blissfully Unrefined is here to share not only how to eat, but to discover why it's important, and how to feel good doing it. My goal is to make information not only accessible, but easy to understand!
Through a love of cooking, and a personal desire to expand my own knowledge of the how's and why's of what we eat, I hope to empower you to make the best decisions you can for your body, and the world around you. With some of my background and recipes, as well as some choice facts, I hope to empower you to take control of what you're eating, make the right decisions, but most importantly, ENJOY it!
(For the record, between eating good, wholesome -and delicious- food and working out a few times a week, I walked down the aisle at my goal!)
